By Elly Stegeman

One presents 21 paintings by Russian artist Andrei Roiter (Moscow, 1960; lives in Amsterdam and New York) and includes an essay by curator Elly Stegeman. Roiter’s visual motifs consist of decaying fragments of buildings. The representation of these spatial volumes as fragments that seem to float in free space can be understood as abstracted memory images. The enigmatic visual motifs stand on their own as well as in relation to each other. The formal similarity in content and form places the series in context.
