The early work by Pipilotti Rist showcases a violently happy brand of feminism: boisterous, intuitive and girlish. This is especially true for ‘Pickelporno’, which heralded Rist’s international breakthrough. The video starts with the dramatic intent of a crime movie. A young woman wearing pointed evening shoes balances her way across a laƫced floor towards her lover. An elaborately choreographed courtship ritual follows, depicted in extreme close-ups and psychedelic colors. The bodies are close and distanced at the same time, thus presenting refreshingly new images of sexuality rather than discussing the pros and cons of porn.
